CBT Motorcycle Course For Novice Riders
If you're older than 17 years old, an A1 license lets you take off your L plates and ride a scooter, or a small motorcycle, and carry a pillion rider.

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)

You'll be awarded the CBT DL196 certificate if you successfully demonstrate that you can operate a motorbike and manage various road situations.

Theory of Module 1 Test
The first step to obtaining an A1 license is passing the motorcycle test. This is a 40-minute test that assesses your knowledge of traffic rules, road signs, and general safety. To maximize your chances of passing, it is recommended to read the Highway Code prior to taking the test.
Following your CBT, you will start your first module of training. You will be riding a bike that is suitable for the category you are in. If you're aiming for A1, the bike will be a Honda Monkey. The course will provide plenty of off-road balance as well as control exercises to prepare you for the manoeuvres on the module 1 test. You will also visit the DVSA test center to familiarize yourself with the marking and procedures associated with each test.
When you have completed your course, you will be able to take your module 1 test at a DVSA approved motorcycle test centre. You will need to bring your CBT certificate along with a valid passport or photocard driving license.
After passing your Module 1 and passed the test, you'll then be able to take your Module 2 practical test, which is conducted on the roads. After passing both Module 1 and Module 2, you'll be able take advantage of the freedoms offered by an A1 light licence. This will allow for you to ride bikes up to 125cc without the requirement of a learner's licence. You will also no longer have to display your L plates. A1 licenses also permit you to ride with a passenger and you don't need to repeat the CBT every 2 years. This is a fantastic option for those who wish to enjoy the excitement of motorcycling. The next step from an A1 license is an unrestricted A license, which requires a full driver's licence.
Module 2: Practical Test
Module 2 is the practical part of your motorcycle license. Once you have passed Module 1 and the theory test, you are now ready to take Module 2. This test will award you an A1 license that permits you to ride a bike up to 125cc and with the power of 11 BHP. You are also able to ride on motorways and carry passengers.
The Mod 2 test is a practical riding test with approximately 10 minutes of free riding. The examiner will follow you on a predetermined road route with varying traffic and road conditions. The route is crowded with junctions roundabouts, roundabouts, and dual carriageways. You'll need to be able ride in various conditions.

Licensing
This course is suitable for those who have completed their Module 1 & 2 passed and are looking to enhance their riding abilities and bond with their bike. It usually involves more advanced exercises and training such as looking through your turns and leaning to steer the bike at higher speeds. It also covers the hazard avoidance techniques used on the road and also high speed stopping and cornering. You will be out on the road for 6 hours with a Ride coach, and you can choose your own bike.
This is an excellent option for drivers who are unsure if the full license is what they really would like. This package includes the Module 1 and 2 tests, as along with the off-road maneuvers required for your Cat A license.
You will begin on smaller bikes to get comfortable with your riding position and your balance before moving up to a bigger bike for your category. It is typically 500cc motorbike. You will be provided with a bike and helmet for this class.

You must be 16 years old to enroll in the Basic RiderCourse.
